LILY'S PREGNANCY DIARY

   THE DAY OF THE MATING
       July 15 2008 Repeat Mating on July 17 2008

Keisyl Lover Boy (Owned by Lisa Danks)                            Kimimela's Miss Pumpkin Pie (Lily)

Each mating went very well! Lover Boy did very little faffing around and went right to it while
Lily showed very little resistance or fear for her first time!

THREE WEEKS AFTER THE MATING
Lily exhibits signs of nesting behaviour (ALREADY!), digging up her blankets and pushing them about with
her nose. Also sleeping a lot and eating less
.

THE DAY OF THE ULTRASOUND SCAN
August 14 2008
The scan revealed 4 small pups in situ straight away and then 1 more, which we were told was smaller
then the other four. It is this smaller pup that I am afraid will not make it. We were told that she took on the first
mating which would make her due to whelp aprrox. September 16 2008.
We were in sheer disbelief that Lily was carrying five pups and I began to worry for her upon this news.
It's not as though she's an ultra big girl, she weighs about 7lbs. She is long in the back however so this will help her to carry five
I hope.

32nd DAY OF PREGNANCY AND HARDLY EATING!
August 16 2008
I realize that broods sometimes go off their food but after four days I am beginning to worry a bit.
I have tried everything from scrambled eggs to chicken and rice, cheese, cottage cheese, tuna, goats milk with a little
added Karo Light Syrup (a high fructose corn syrup) and canned puppy food. Out of all these she will only eat Honey roast ham
and her treats of dry bone shaped biscuits. If she goes too long without anything to eat she starts shivering as though she
was freezing cold but this stops soon after she eats only the smallest amount of food so I feel forced to give her whatever
she WILL eat even if not particularly good for her. After all she has FIVE PUPS TO FEED!
This afternoon I offered her some Cottage Pie. She ate this with gusto but not much which is OK at least she ate,
but refused the ham and biscuit treats.
Tonight I will try her on fresh mince. Wish me luck!
9:06 pm
Before going out to dinner I gave Lily a piece of Teriyaki Beef Jerky that my Mom brought from the states.
She went MAD for it! Having eaten some Cottage pie earlier as well, this made me think that it is BEEF that she wants.
I gave her some raw mince followed by cooked mince, which I feel is better as the heat will kill off any bacteria.
I am happy to say that she ate every bit in seconds flat! I will try sneaking in some Royal Canin puppy and cottage cheese
tomorrow.  Giving her 3 small meals per day as to not fill her up too much. I feel so much better now and I'm sure she does too!
SUCCESS!
38th Day Of Pregnancy
August 22 2008
For the past 4 days, Lily has decided she no longer likes beef mince now and will only eat hot dogs or chicken but
only if I chew the chicken up first before giving it to her! I still offer healthy foods that she USED to like as well as her
regular Royal Canin mixed with canned food but she won't touch it. She's never been a finicky eater til now!
Other than that, she is very well in herself, even playful and affectionate.

46th Day Of Pregnancy
Aug 30 2008
LILY GETS HER DEN AND HER APPETITE HAS INCREASED!

The unborn pups will now begin their growth spurt and this seems to have triggered her appetite.
Although still refusing her Royal Canin she is taking egg and liver now along with meat.
I have been supplementing with Nutri-Cal twice a day for the past 4 days and this seems to have perked her up
but may no longer be needed as she is eating a wider variety of foods and rarely refuses her meals
!

Lily loves her den that I have made myself using two cardboard boxes tied together. The larger box that she is in
is her whelping box and the smaller box next to it is her resting box, where she can get away from the pups
but still see and get to them through the opening between the two. This set up will be changed as the pups grow.

48th Day Of Pregnancy
Sept 1 2008
An Ultrasound was done to determine the state of the smaller 5th puppy. 4 pups were seen moving about and developing
well! The fifth however still remains a mystery as it could not be 100% detected due to the other four possibly obstructing
it's view. So we still don't know if there will be four or five! I am hoping that the fifth pup did reabsorb so to make it easier
or her. Other than that, she is doing great!

57
th Day Of Pregnancy
Sept 10 2008
Lily looks as though she has swallowed an American football! I can feel the pups tossing and turning in her belly.
I have started AM/PM temps. She is well in herself. It's just a waiting game now til 4 or 5 little bundles of
love arrive!

DUE DAY!
SEPT 16 2008

Temps have ranged in the low to mid 37's Celsius for the past 5 days. Still waiting for the big drop in temp!
She is eating about  5-6 very small meals of mostly fresh chicken and liver per day and refuses anything else for the
most part. Also drinking lots of water but refuses goats/evaporated milk. She gets restless in the wee hours
and does a fair share of panting but that's as far as it goes. I have notified my Vet today and have been advised to wait a few days
more, so long as she continues to exhibit no signs of distress.
So the wait continues!
